Ruteng reverse

Ruteng is a modern interpretation of tradition, inspired by a Flores Island hoba pojo, a man’s cloth woven from handspun cotton and dyed with natural indigo and morinda. This block-printed fabric combines 95% linen with 5% cotton, offering tactile elegance.

The base fabric features a rich interplay of indigo and burnt red stripes, accentuated by fine, two-color twisted yarns and dobby weft stripes that add depth and texture, the navy stripes achieved with striae dyeing, a technique that balances light and dark shades for a nuanced, textured effect.

Traditional wooden blocks, carved by master artisans, are used to apply a Khadi print on the navy striae, creating a striking motif that stand out against the darker ground. Ruteng honors the artistry of its origins while showcasing meticulous craftsmanship, offering a textile that is both timeless and versatile, a true celebration of tradition reimagined.
