omyobu

Made from chunky 100% linen in a medium indigo hue, Ōmyōbu is created using a discharge technique, similar to the method used to create the 19th century source document which was found at an estate sale in San Francisco. Through this process, the indigo dye is selectively removed to reveal a charming— and very usable— floral motif that echoes the soft, ethereal beauty of traditional katazome designs.

Named after Ōmyōbu, a character known for her quiet strength in The Tale of Genji, this textile embodies both resilience and elegant simplicity, much like her presence in the Heian court.
