Countess ayakura
Countess Ayakura was inspired by a paper thin scrap of fabric lining the back of an Edo period tansu chest. Crafted from slubbed linen, it features an intricate peony motif—a revered symbol of prosperity, honor, and bravery in Japanese culture.
This fabric is created through a meticulous discharge and block printing process, where the base dye is carefully removed to reveal the intricate pattern, giving it a unique, uneven appearance. Traditional wooden blocks, each hand-carved by a skilled artisan, add additional layers to the design using water-based pigments, ensuring vibrant, lasting colors. The fabric is then cured and washed to achieve a soft, luxurious hand feel.
