Borobudur

Borobudur is a refined example of contemporary warp printing dedicated to preserving the visual culture of the past. Made from 100% sustainably grown cotton, it begins with a solid-colored net warp, prepared and mounted on a loom. The design is applied with five overlapping screens, creating an ikat effect visible on both sides of the fabric. After printing, the warp is re-mounted and aligned with precision, with the weft removed and replaced by hand to complete the pattern.

This labor-intensive process takes a team of three weavers nearly a full day to produce one yard. The resulting material is extremely durable and carries the special energy that comes from being meticulously hand-crafted by master weavers. Inspired by an antique Javanese ikat gifted to Sean by his friend Itang while on a pilgrimage to the vast 8th-century stone mandala rising from the center of Java, Borobudur carries the legacy of its origins, woven with care and intention.
